Favorite Coastal Cities
At just a little over an hour away from Trellis and Downtown Dundee, the Oregon Coast is a beautiful place to explore at any time during the year. Summertime is certainly no different, as the coast has a wide variety of things to do for people of all ages. Whether you want to plan a quick day trip or are heading on vacation for a week or more, here are our favorite coastal cities that are conveniently located nearby to Oregon Wine Country.
Pacific City
If you are heading to Pacific City, the main attraction is its massive sand dunes just off the beach. Climbing up this giant hill of sand is no small task, but once you get to the top the views of the ocean and the coastline are unbeatable. This small town is also home to some great surfing if that’s your thing. Expect to see lots of people with their boards in the ocean.
Seaside
This charming coastal town is located a bit further north, but should definitely be on your list of places to visit. It has much more of a city feel with its grid streets, beachfront condos and hotels, and lots of things to do. If you want a change of pace from a beach day on vacation, you can stop over to Seaside and visit the arcade with the family, or see a movie at the Seaside Cinema.
Newport
The charming fishing town feels like you have been transported to a storybook coastal town in New England. This is a great family-friendly choice since it’s home to museums as well as the Oregon Coast Aquarium. The town of Newport has many options to stay in, or it can be perfect for a day trip. We recommend checking out the South Beach state park here for some gorgeous ocean views and playing on the beach.
Depoe Bay
Depoe Bay is a unique spot that showcases the beauty of the Oregon Coast. This small town features a strip of shops along a road directly on the ocean. It’s a huge tourist draw due to the fact that waves crash up onto the street, which can be fun to see, and some people even bring their raincoats to intentionally get soaked! You can visit the touristy shops, get some saltwater taffy, and watch the rugged Oregon ocean in all its glory.
Tillamook
If you are looking for a uniquely Oregon experience, Tillamook is a must. Make a stopover to the Tillamook Cheese Factory to see how his famous cheese is made, and get to sample plenty of cheese, made right here in Oregon. You can also visit some stunning lighthouses, as well as the Tillamook Air Museum, which is a giant aircraft hanger with lots of cool history about the Oregon Coast.
If you are heading back from the beach and into the city, Trellis is along the main road that you will be taking to get back to Portland or any of its suburbs. Be sure to stop by for a meal or call in for some takeout for the rest of your drive home!
