Best Food and Wine Pairings for Fall

Now that the weather is cooling off a bit, our bodies start to crave different kinds of foods to warm us up. Think hearty soups, pasta dishes, and other meals designed to be eaten warm. Say goodbye to warm-weather items like salads and enjoy these delicious combinations of the best food and wine pairings for fall here at Trellis. We assure you that our picks will get you excited for the cooler weather ahead.

Pairing One: Short Rib Stroganoff and Pinot Noir

If a big bowl of pasta and a nice glass of Oregon Pinot Noir doesn’t scream fall comfort food, we don’t know what does. Here in Oregon, our favorite red wine is of course Pinot Noir. So many of our wine menu selections come from within a few miles of a restaurant location, so you really can’t go wrong with whatever bottle looks good to you. Your server can recommend a vineyard if you are looking for something specific, but you have plenty of options when it comes to Pinot Noir and dining at Trellis, the Short Rib Stroganoff is an excellent choice to go with a nice glass (or bottle) of Oregon Pinot Noir on a brisk fall day.

Pairing Two: Soup of the Day and Chardonnay

Our Soup of the Day with a nice glass of Chardonnay sounds like one of the best food and wine pairings for fall if you’re craving something on the lighter side. Ask your server which soup we are serving at the time of your visit, then choose a bottle from our wine menu, or order a glass of the 2020 Hundred Suns Chardonnay off our wines by the glass menu. This combination will not be too heavy, but the blend of warm soup and full-bodied chardonnay is perfect once the weather starts to cool off.

Pairing Three: New York Strip and Merlot

Another beef and wine pairing that you will surely enjoy is our New York Strip, paired with a Merlot from just up north in the Columbia Valley. Our neighbors in Washington make some seriously delicious Merlot that pairs well with our New York Strip steak entree. We recommend choosing a bottle of Cathedral Ridge Merlot from the “Fun Reds” section of our extensive wine menu.

Pairing Four: Vegetarian Risotto and Prosecco

Once the weather becomes chillier, comforting warm foods like risotto are ideal meals to enjoy. Our vegetable risotto features seasonal vegetables that are paired with creamy, slow-cooked arborio rice that will warm you from the inside out on a chilly day. Opting for a glass of our LaLuca Prosecco makes this dish feel special and cozier. This combination is the perfect choice for a fall meal on a rainy day designed to warm you up and fill your belly.

Our menu features year-round favorites, as well as seasonal dishes with produce that is grown during the fall months. Warm up with a pairing of food and wine designed for fall the next time you enjoy a meal here at Trellis.
